Bengaluru City University (officially renamed Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University in 2025) is a public state university located in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. Established in 2017 by the Government of Karnataka, the university was created through the trifurcation of Bangalore University with the objective of improving academic administration and expanding access to higher education. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, certificate, and doctoral programmes across a wide range of disciplines, including arts, science, commerce, management, education, law, social sciences, and vocational studies. History

Bengaluru City University was established by the Government of Karnataka in 2017 following the administrative division of Bangalore University into three separate universities: Bangalore University, Bengaluru North University, and Bengaluru City University. The reorganization aimed to improve governance, reduce the administrative burden on a single university, and enhance the quality of higher education within the Bengaluru metropolitan region. The university initially commenced academic activities under the name Bengaluru Central University.

Academic operations began during the 2018–19 academic session, with several postgraduate departments and more than 200 affiliated colleges transferred from Bangalore University. The university inherited the historic Central College Campus, one of Karnataka's oldest centres of higher education, which has been associated with numerous distinguished scholars and public figures.

In 2020, the institution was officially renamed Bengaluru City University to reflect its location and jurisdiction within Bengaluru. In 2025, the Government of Karnataka further renamed it Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University in honour of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Despite the official change, many academic publications and affiliated institutions continue to reference the university by its earlier name in historical contexts.
