Skill India is a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at empowering the country's youth through skill development, vocational training, entrepreneurship promotion, and employability enhancement. Launched on 15 July 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the mission seeks to create a skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of a rapidly evolving economy and global job market. It is implemented under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

The mission focuses on providing industry-relevant skills, improving productivity, encouraging entrepreneurship, and supporting India's vision of becoming a globally competitive economy. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between workforce skills and industry requirements.

The mission was developed in response to the growing need for skilled manpower and the increasing number of young people entering the workforce. It operates through a coordinated framework involving central ministries, state governments, industry partners, educational institutions, and skill development organizations.
