University of Mumbai (formerly University of Bombay) is a public state university located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Established in 1857, it is one of the oldest universities in India and was among the first three modern universities founded in the country during British rule. In 1996, following the official renaming of the city from Bombay to Mumbai, the institution was renamed the University of Mumbai.
