Dr. V. S. Krishna Government Degree & P.G. College is an autonomous government higher education institution located in Maddilapalem, Visakhapatnam, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Established in 1968, the college offers undergraduate and postgraduate education across multiple academic disciplines and functions as one of the established public degree colleges in the region.
Named after Dr. V. S. Krishna, former Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, the institution developed over several decades through expansion of academic departments, infrastructure growth, and the introduction of autonomous academic administration. History
Dr. V. S. Krishna Government Degree & P.G. College was established in 1968 and inaugurated on 12 December 1968 by Khandubhai K. Desai, who served as Governor of Andhra Pradesh at that time. Initially functioning as a non-autonomous government college, the institution began operations with the objective of expanding access to higher education in Visakhapatnam.
In 1969, the college was relocated from the university campus to the Visakha Valley School area. Administrative and infrastructural developments later supported the transition of the institution to its permanent campus at Maddilapalem during the 1980–81 period. Land acquisition and institutional development were supported through district-level administrative initiatives.
The institution expanded academically over the following decades. It became a Nodal Centre in 2005, established a Research and Development Cell in 2010, and was granted autonomous status in 2011. In 2022, the college was recognized as NRC, further strengthening its academic profile.
