Igatpuri
Igatpuri is a hill town and municipal council located in the Nashik district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. Situated in the Western Ghats (Sahyadri Range), approximately 120 kilometres northeast of Mumbai and about 45 kilometres southwest of Nashik, Igatpuri is known for its scenic landscapes, mountain passes, waterfalls, trekking routes, and pleasant climate. The town lies at an elevation of around 600 metres above sea level and serves as an important railway junction and gateway between the Konkan coast and the Deccan Plateau. Igatpuri is also internationally recognized as the location of the Dhamma Giri Vipassana International Academy, one of the world's largest centers for Vipassana meditation.
History
The history of Igatpuri is closely linked to its strategic position in the Western Ghats.
