Karimnagar is a city and the administrative headquarters of Karimnagar District in the Indian state of Telangana. Situated on the banks of the Manair River, a tributary of the Godavari River, Karimnagar is one of the major urban centers of northern Telangana. The city is known for its educational institutions, healthcare facilities, agricultural trade, and granite industry, earning the nickname "City of Granites".

Etymology
The name Karimnagar is believed to have been derived from Syed Karimuddin, a military officer (Quiladar) associated with the region during the rule of the Nizams. The city was previously associated with Elgandal, an important historic settlement and fort located nearby.
History
The region around Karimnagar has a long history dating back to ancient and medieval India. Historically, the area formed part of the region known as Sabbinadu and came under the rule of several dynasties including the Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Kakatiyas, Bahmanis, Qutb Shahis, and the Asaf Jahi rulers of Hyderabad.
The nearby Elgandal Fort served as an important administrative and military center during the Kakatiya and later Deccan Sultanate periods. In 1905, the district headquarters was shifted from Elgandal to Karimnagar by the Nizam administration, leading to the city's modern growth.
