Scientist Asif (Asif Ali), popularly known as the "Science Magician of India" or "Asif Sir," is an Indian educator, psychologist, and motivational trainer based in Delhi, renowned for transforming how science is taught in India. He is a full-time science teacher at a government secondary school in Delhi, and operates under the brand Bigbrain. He has earned national recognition and a large following among students and parents for turning textbook lessons into immersive, hands-on learning experiences.
Background
Asif holds advanced degrees in both science education and psychology, including clinical, child, and counseling psychology. Alongside his teaching role, he conducts free psychological counseling, career guidance, and interactive science exhibition shows for underprivileged students during his vacations.
Teaching Approach
Asif Sir is known for rejecting traditional rote-learning ("ratna") methods in favour of hands-on, experiential teaching. He aligns his interactive performances with the national NCERT curriculum, turning textbook chapters into what he describes as "spellbooks of discovery":
- Live Visual Demonstrations – Explains chemical formulas and physics principles using real-time setups such as dry ice, colour-changing liquids, fire experiments, and the "genie in a bottle" illusion
- Psychological Edge – Applies knowledge of cognitive psychology, memory techniques, and illusions to capture students' attention and improve retention of complex topics
- Teacher Training – Mentors and trains other government educators in implementing experimental and interactive teaching techniques in their own classrooms
