Dr. Swapnil Subhashrao Choudhary is an Indian law academician, legal expert, author, and social activist based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He serves as Assistant Professor of Law (Full-time/Approved) at VES College of Law, Chembur, Mumbai, where he has been teaching LL.B. and LL.M. students since 1 July 2013. He is also the Vice President of Lokmangalam Seva Sanstha, Kalyan, Thane, and the Coordinator of the Free Legal Aid Center at VES Law College in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mumbai.

He holds a Ph.D. in Law with specialization in Intellectual Property Rights and is the sole author of three published law textbooks available on Flipkart and Amazon. His career spans legal academia, High Court litigation, community legal aid, and social activism.

Early Life and Family Background

Dr. Swapnil Subhashrao Choudhary was born on 27 January in Parbhani, Maharashtra, India. He is the grandson of the late freedom fighter Shri Digambar Choudhary and the third son of Shri Subhashrao Choudhary, who served as an Agriculture Officer at Marathwada Agricultural University. This legacy of public service and social commitment has been a defining influence throughout his professional life.

Education

Dr. Choudhary completed his schooling at Gandhi Vidyalay, Krishi Sarthi Colony, Parbhani, and his higher secondary education at Nrusimha Junior College, Shri Khetra Pokharni Nrusimha, Parbhani. He subsequently pursued the following academic qualifications:

  • BSL LL.B. (Five-Year Integrated Course) – Shri Shivaji Law College, Parbhani, affiliated to Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded (First Class, 2007)
  • LL.M. (Business Law) – Department of PG Studies in Law, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (First Class, 2010)
  • UGC NET (Law) – Qualified for Lectureship at the National Level (2010)
  • Ph.D. in Law (Intellectual Property Rights) – Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded (Awarded 2022)

His doctoral thesis was titled Analytical Study of Intellectual Property Rights with Special Reference to Patent, Copyright and Trademark in India.

Career

Dr. Choudhary began his legal career as an Associate Lawyer with Adv. L. G. Diwan from July 2010 to April 2011, followed by independent practice as an Advocate at the High Court of Bombay, Bench at Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), from June 2011 to June 2012.

Academic Career

Since 1 July 2013, he has served as a full-time, approved Assistant Professor of Law at VES College of Law, Chembur, Mumbai, teaching subjects including Intellectual Property Rights, Business Law, Cyber Jurisprudence, Company Law, and Criminal Procedure Code to LL.B. and LL.M. students. He has served continuously as Paper Setter, Moderator, and Evaluator for 3-year and 5-year LL.B. courses at University of Mumbai from 2015 to 2025.

He has also served as Research Supervisor for LL.M. students for Dissertation and Interdisciplinary Projects across academic years 2021–22, 2022–23, 2023–24, and 2024–25.

He serves as In-Charge Teacher of the Free Legal Counselling Centre at VES Law College since AY 2018–2019, working in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mumbai, to provide accessible legal remedies to underprivileged communities. He has also been invited as a Member of the National Lok Adalat, City Civil and Session Court, Mumbai (March 2024 and September 2025).
